ISDS Opens New Premises at Atar House, Jos – Strengthening Disability Research, Training and Inclusive Development in Nigeria

The International School of Disability Studies (ISDS) is pleased to announce the opening of its newly renovated premises at Atar House, Bukuru Expressway, Jos, Plateau State. This development marks a major milestone in ISDS’s mission to advance disability research, inclusive education, and professional training across Nigeria and the African region.

Founded in 2014 by Dr. Precious Nonye Sango, ISDS is Nigeria’s first specialized international centre dedicated to intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), mental health, and disability inclusion. The centre exists to close critical gaps in knowledge, policy, and practice, and to improve the quality of life of disabled people through research, training, and community engagement.

An Accessible Space for Inclusive Learning

The new ISDS premises at Atar House has been renovated to reflect the centre’s commitment to accessibility, dignity, and universal design. Renovations include:

  • A modern Reception and Main Library Hall
  • A Quiet Study/Lecture Room and Meeting Room/Office
  • Upgraded restrooms, break room and group study room
  • Full electrical rewiring, new plumbing, LED lighting and improved natural light
  • Enhanced security features and an accessible entrance ramp

Advancing ISDS’s Mission Through Expanded Capacity

Speaking on the significance of the new premises, Dr. Precious N. Sango, Centre Director, stated:

“Atar House is more than a new location — it is a strategic investment in the future of disability inclusion in Nigeria. By creating a purpose-built environment for research, training and community engagement, we are expanding our ability to deliver world-class programmes that empower disabled people, their families and the professionals who support them.”

Professional Training Programmes at ISDS

ISDS offers research-led, interactive training modules designed for students, academics, researchers, carers, health workers, service providers and families of disabled people. All courses are available online or in person.

Module 1: Understanding Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities and Learning Difficulties

Welcoming Two New Members of Staff

Sentang Danladi – Research & Administrative Lead

Sentang brings over five years of experience in academic research support, administrative management, proposal development and stakeholder engagement. With a Master’s degree in Educational Research, Measurement and Evaluation and strong skills in SPSS, NVivo and academic writing, she will support ISDS’s research projects, training coordination and administrative operations.

Gideon Essien – Research & Administrative Officer

Gideon joins ISDS with a background in psychology, education and NGO fieldwork. His experience includes teaching, data collection, safeguarding, community engagement and complaint/feedback management. His strong communication skills and passion for disability inclusion will support ISDS’s training delivery, learner engagement and programme implementation.

Opening Date

The new ISDS premises is now officially open from 20th January 2026.
